Winners of the 2014 Essay Competition by The Nation Newspaper and AfricanLiberty.org powered by Network For a Free Society

Based on the review of the submitted essays, 77 per cent is the highest score while the lowest score is 3 per cent.  The details of the scores are recorded below. The general assessment shows an increase in the knowledge and spread of liberty in Africa. The content of the essays present an evidence of a positive impact of Africanliberty.org , The Nation newspaper and Network for a Free Society  promoting activities.

The grading was based on four key criteria.

1.     Understanding and discussion of the issues: This is to assess the level of understanding of key liberty elements as discussed by the writer. This carried 50 marks

2.     Each essay was also assessed on the level of organisation and conformity to the size of the essay. This carried 15 marks

3.     The third criteria looked at the grammar, structure and creativity displayed by the writer. The carried 15 marks

Originality: This assessed the use of other scholars’s works and ideas, and whether the writers appropriately credited the source(s) of used intellectual materials. This carried 20 marks.
